The Northside Lions football team is a team coached by a Conroe Police Night Shift Lieutenant Brent Stowe who is also the SWAT Commander. Stowe has been coaching for 8-years. His two sons went through the program at which time he was a dad coach. Since then he has been a volunteer coach/athletic director. This year’s head coach is Mike Helmer.  For those who may have driven or walked down 1st Street in Conroe on a recent Friday night, you might have wondered just who that was playing football under the lights at Booker T. Washington Park. That's the Northside Lions, a homeschool football team built from scratch by head coach Paul Zimmer.

Paul Zimmer was born in Erie, PA in 1969. He met his wife Kristen at Penn State University in 1991 where he was on a Navy ROTC scholarship. After ten years as an active duty Navy Pilot, Paul joined a major U.S. airline.

Paul and Kristen moved to Willis, TX in 2005. They homeschooled their 3 children on their small family farm, opening the front field to homeschool gym class (Zim-Gym!) and football and soccer fun. Their daughters Hannah and Sarah became avid soccer players. Son Jake took to football via the Conroe YMCA.

Jake aged out of YMCA football after 6th grade and there were no club or homeschool football teams in the area. The Lord led the Zimmers to explore starting a junior high homeschool football team.

The Northside Lions were born.

The Zimmer family was blessed with a new edition in 2009. Baby Paul was a long time young fan and fixture at team events. The Good Lord willing, he will join the Lions as a junior high player in 2022
